2021 Sacagawea Native American Dollar - Military design
NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo Advance Releases
from San Francisco Mint 7-Coin Proof Set
The 2021 S Proof Sacagawea Native American Dollar graded by
NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo with Advanced Releases designation. 70 is a perfect grade for a coin. This coin is from the 7-Coin Clad Proof Set
from the San Francisco Mint. The special
San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge label further specializes this coin and helps
call to attention the coins mintage at the US Mint San Francisco Mint facility. This is the first Sacagawea Native American
Dollar with Advance Releases designation from NGC.
Each year
since 2009 the Sacagawea Native American $1 Coin has featured a single year
reverse design, the first U.S. Mint coin to have an annual design change.
This year’s design features eagle feathers, which were traditionally earned in
battle or by performing a brave deed. Eagle feathers are revered and
respected, receiving the utmost care and handling, and are to be displayed
proudly in homes. Stars representing five branches of the U.S.
Military are in the foreground, while a circle provides an additional
reference to Native Americans. Inscriptions are “NATIVE AMERICANS – DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE SINCE
1775,” “$1,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
Advanced Release is
the only official designation made by the US Mint. Advanced Releases coins are coins sold to the
18 largest coin buyers from the US Mint but represent only a fraction of the
coins sold by the US Mint. To be
eligible for the Advanced Releases designation NGC must have the coins before
the official release date from the US Mint.
The US Mint normally provides Advanced Releases coins to the largest
dealers two days before the official release, meaning they must be immediately
submitted to the grading companies to receive this extremely limited and
desirable designation.
Proof coins are
coins that the US Mint makes differently than standard circulating coins used
for change. Proof coins are manufactured
by striking the coin numerous times under increased pressure to make the field
(flat portion of the coin) have a mirrored finish. Proof coins are specifically made for
collectors since they have better eye appeal than standard circulating coins.
Grading companies usually annotate proof coins with either PR or PF before the number
grade. Additionally, exceptional coins
will be given Ultra Cameo or DCAM (deep cameo) designation for coins where the difference
between the surface of the coin’s devices and the mirrored finish of the coin’s
field are very pronounced.
