Description of the Playzer X-Series

The Playzer X-Series provides developers, makers, engineers, and students easy access to Playzer technology and its underlying VGLP architecture on the platform of their choice. It provides both the option to control the laser beam by external controllers via Analog Inputs, and the option to control the laser beam by software via USB.

With very low power consumption, devoted mostly to the supply of the laser driver, and with a highly compact mechanical profile, Playzer X-Series is well-suited for the development of many laser pointing applications.

Playzer X-Series provides simplified control of MEMS Mirror and Laser Beam with multiple interface modes:
  • Analog Input (ships with this Interface Mode)
  • USB (user switches to this Interface Mode with USB commands)
For more detailed information including mechanical dimensions and electrical specifications, please see the Mirrorcle Playzer X-Series - User Guide: https://mirrorcletech.com/pdf/PX/Mirrorcle_Playzer_X-Series_-_User_Guide.pdf

Interface Modes - Analog Input

The Analog Input Interface Mode of the Playzer X allows users to interface via three channels of analog signals, allowing control of the laser beam direction (X,Y or azimuth and elevation) and laser beam intensity. Use of the PlayzerX-AIN requires user's own hardware such as: data acquisition card (NIDAQ or similar), FPGA/MCU based embedded systems, or bench-top lab equipment. This Playzer system cannot be directly controlled via a software interface as it takes voltages as inputs.

Compatible third-party vector graphics laser show controllers:
 - Moncha Lite
 - Pangolin FB3QS

What is Playzer?

Mirrorcle’s Vector Graphics Laser Projection (VGLP) Architecture combines a full technology stack of software, electronics, and optical laser beam-steering solutions to enable fully programmable and re-configurable laser projection and display of bright, high-contrast graphic content on a variety of surfaces.

The architecture optimizes the performance of lasers and fast gimbal-less dual-axis MEMS mirrors to achieve highest “wall-plug power to visibility” efficiency. A critical feature of the architecture is to utilize lasers of modest optical power at very high duty cycles and to deliver all available illumination to the desired vector graphics and image, and not to spread it over a wide area as in typical pico-projectors or DLP displays.

Playzer is a pocket-sized programmable vector graphic laser projector. It consists of a MEMS mirror-based Scan Module, Controller electronics, Software API, and applications (presently Windows, optionally Linux or Android-based). Playzer is a compact solution for displaying graphics in a multitude of environments, both outdoor and indoor.

Mirrorcle MEMS Mirrors

Mirrorcle's scanning MEMS mirrors have point-to-point (quasi-static) capability to point to and stop at any angle in their specified range, or run broadband patterns such as triangle waveforms, linear rasters, vector graphics, etc.  In other words, they allow beam steering to arbitrary positions and at arbitrary beam velocities up to the bandwidth limit.

Target Applications:
  • Robotics
  • Drones
  • Industry Automation (Industry 4.0)
  • Construction
  • Digital Signage

Laser Safety
Buyer of this product assumes all responsibility for the safe operation of the product. Buyer shall provide all signage, warning labels, safety devices, guarding, shielding and other measures as may be necessary and/or appropriate, or which are required by federal, state, or local laws and regulations, for the safe operation of the Product. Buyer shall defend, indemnify and hold seller ("usamems") and manufacturer ("Mirrorcle Technologies, Inc.") harmless with respect to any property damage and/or personal injury, including death, which is caused by reason of the failure on the part of Buyer, and/or any employee, representative, operator or agent of Buyer, to comply with this term.

While the product was designed with a strong emphasis on safety, it should be treated as a source of a laser beam and therefore it should never be looked at directly from distances of <1m when in operation.

The above listed products are sold as components and intended for development purposes for incorporation into prototypes and end products by manufacturers. They are not sold as complete laser products.

Warnings and Recommendations
 - This electrostatic actuated device is naturally ESD sensitive and should be handles with care.
 - The device is based on optics and micro-optics which can be broken with excessive shock (e.g. >100G)
 - Recommended not to exceed above listed mechanical angle and drive voltages. Beyond those operation limits the device may be damaged or destroyed.
 - Always perform tests that include any new settings - such as new drawings, new refresh rates, new filter settings - at low voltage settings until you can verify that those settings are working properly and not exciting the device beyond its mechanical limits.
 - Opening of the Scan Module can easily result in damage of the optics, electronics, or the micro-mechanical (MEMS) unit. Scan Module housing not be removed or tampered with, and should not be touched to maintain best optical quality. No liquids should be used in any way with the device (e.g. to clean it).
