Bjorn Wiinblad 1972 Denmark Signed Pottery Eva Head / Face Cup / Bowl / Vase on Foot. Beautiful piece, rare find!

Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter and ceramicist known for his whimsical illustrations and carefully designed household objects. Wiinblad’s signature round-faced, smiling figures in fantastical or folkloric settings, made him a popular and admired creative talent in his native country. Born on September 20, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he trained as a typographer before becoming an artist. He worked extensively with the Nymolle and Rosenthal pottery companies, designing a commemorative annual Christmas plate for the latter in 1971. His illustrations for Hans Christian Anderson’s The Swineherd won an award from the American Library Association, and were made into an animated short in 1986. He was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize in 1995, with his works held in collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen.
