Japanese Flat Thread Collection.

A wonderful assortment of Japanese Flat/Ribbon thread.

There are twelve different shades, each wooden bobbin has 12 metres of thread on it, so you get a total of 144 metres. The threads can vary slightly in width(see photo), on average they are about 0.4 mm wide.  One metre of thread will cover approximately 4 square centimetres densely.

These threads were bought from traditional Japanese weaving workshops which have closed.  The flat threads were often used in weaving Obi's and Cloth of a Gold, and traditional Japanese Embroidery,but they can also be couched down and used in many other ways.

The bobbins are about 27 mm long but can hold plenty of thread without developing kinks.  They are presented in a strong black box(measuring 22cm x7cm x2cm) and make a lovely gift.
