Description

Pack of Fresh seeds of Carica papaya (Papaya; also known as papaw, pawpaw or the melon tree) – with full instructions for germination.

A small, broadleaf evergreen, tree-like, herbaceous succulent, native to South America, growing up to 20 ft within open ground in the tropics, but will stay under 6 - 10 ft in height within a pot (depending on size of container).

The single, upright stem is topped by an ornamentally attractive, palm-like umbrella canopy of palmately lobed leaves, up to 2 ft wide.

Showy, fragrant, trumpet-shaped, cream flowers bloom throughout the year, followed by large, edible, fruits initially green, ripening to yellow-orange.

Frost tender (hardy to 10 - 15°C) so makes a great conservatory plant / houseplant. Within temperate regions, plants can be grown in large tubs outdoors during the warmer season, and then overwintered indoors within bright locations over the colder months.  Plants tolerate light shade if grown ornamentally instead of for fruit.
