Orange Pekoe (OP) is one of the worlds most popular grades of black tea, with distinctively long and wiry rolled leaves. Contrary to opinion, the word 'orange' doesn't have anything to do with the fruit or colour. In the 1600s when tea began being widely distributed throughout Europe by the Dutch East India Company, the Dutch royal family was of House Orange.
In homage to the royal family, the highest grade black teas were termed "Orange Pekoe". Pekoe is a Chinese word that can roughly be translated to describe the soft downy hairs found on the youngest leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant, which are plucked to produce OP teas.
Grown in the Kenyan highlands this tea elicits an intricate flavour comprised of a malt base with mild spice, wild honey and floral undertones.

Ingredients: Black Tea.
Serving Suggestion: Add 1-2 teaspoons and brew in 90-95ºC water for 1-2 minutes. Add brown sugar, honey or milk to taste.
