Old, circa 1930’s Art Deco relief sculpture / plaque done in plaster with verdigris coloration. Unframed work of art with imperfections will be packed very carefully to ensure safety in shipping. It measures 8 1/2 x 5/8 x 6 1/4 inches.

The plaque isn’t signed. But, it reminds me a lot of Paul Manship and his style. Maybe it’s by him. Usually, we see his bronzes, but he did work in plaster and the Smithsonian has some of those pieces by him including at least one plaster portrait plaque.

This is art. Most Paul Manship items that turn up on eBay are more in the numismatic category such as medals / other round objects that don’t even look ‘Deco’ style to me.

I’ve owned this plaque for maybe 20 years. I guarantee it’s from the period and not a repro of any kind. Yes, it looks clean on the back. It was framed, and the back was covered since the Deco era. I removed it to examine the right side edge -- I thought it may have been cropped. But, nope, I see the green verdigris going over the edge there, so it’s alright and not tampered with.

Manship’s auction record on Askart for a sculpture is 1.5 million dollars. Maybe you can come up with a better suggestion on attribution than me? Either way, I’m offering ‘the look for less’.

Thanks for taking a peek. ~Chris
