We are proud to offer the FIP Driver for the Roland JX10 or 8P Display. If your screen has all of the characters lighting up, this is the part that fixes it. It may also fix many of the other issues with the screen: no characters working, partial characters, “ghosting”. You’ve probably been told these parts no longer exist; Well, we have them. We currently have multiple listings on eBay. We are offering FIP coils for both the MKS-70 and JX10/8P (See Note below for info). We have a limited supply of these, but depending on the demand we may have more made. Each is wound by hand on a small coil winder, soldered by hand, sealed (Ring and Core), and finally, tested.

If you are a fan of these vintage units, then you are probably aware of this issue and the rarity of the coil drivers. You are probably wondering how we came to have so many. Well…we have been restoring and selling gear on eBay for several years. A few of years ago we took delivery of a Roland MKS-70 with the proverbial “star/888888888888” screen: the one where all of the pixels have lighted up so you cannot read the screen. We had intended to use it for parts, but decided to research the coil driver issue. After several calls to Roland and cruising the blog sites, we came to the conclusion that unfortunately the parts didn’t exist anymore. Not to be deterred, we contacted Roland Corp; they would not special order these. We even contacted Sumida; the original manufacturer of the nine-pin DC-DC Converter FIP Driver. They said they would manufacturer it but the minimum order was 3000 (three thousand) pieces. We were able to locate unused ferrite cores and rings that met the exact dimensions and Henry rating of the original. We spent quite a bit of engineering hours recreating the coil. Long story short, we decided to custom wind them here locally in California. Each Coil Driver is tested on a modified JX10. These work great and after a little bit of re-engineering we were able to lower the operating temperature (one of the issues in the units that fail).

NOTE: We have had many, many, many inquires regarding the interchangeability of the -283 coil (MKS-70) and the -251 coil (JX10/8P). The short answer is "yes" they will swap out. From a dimensional perspective, they are exactly the same, and voltage wise they are close, however, the MKS-70 has voltage requirements that are slightly different. Because of that, we decided it would be in the best interest of our customers to recreate the coil specifically for the JX10. Long term it will be better on the units. So, again, another long story short, we have two different coils up on eBay. Please be sure to order the one specific to your unit.

Free Shipping in the USA.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: We use the eBay Global Ship program. We have no control over the shipping costs they charge. However, if you use USPS First Class International it is much cheaper than using USPS Priority mail. The shipping weight for up to five pieces, including the package and padding is under the maximum 1st Class weight allowance of 12.9 ounces. Thanks

RETURNS: We only accept returns for defective products. However, we do not expect these. We have had zero coils returned. As I have mentioned, EACH coil is tested in a working JX10 unit.
