This is a medal commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Lajos Kossuth, a leader in the 1848 Hungarian Revolution and Regent President of the Kingdom of Hungary. Kossuth and his government won many concessions for the Hungarian people from the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand; however Ferdinand abdicated to Franz Joseph who did not believe the Hungarians should be self-governing. Kossuth had to leave Hungary and lived in the USA for a period before settling down in England. over 150 years after the 1848 Revolution, Lajos Kossuth is still a symbol of nationalism and pride for the Hungarian people.

I am not sure what the recipient did to earn this medal, but it is from 1902 Austro-Hungarian Empire.
