Photograph Notes: This is the Catholic Church for the village which is more commonly known as Killawalla these days. The village suffered a huge drop in population during the Irish Potato Famine of the 1840's. In 1841 the census gave a population of 2277 but in 1851 it had fallen to just 789 people. The loss of about two thirds of the population was the biggest percentage drop of any place in Ireland in that period. Today the village population is still under 1000.
