Photograph Notes: Seen from up the 1930 built Lilleshall triple expansion engine. This crankshaft extension operates three low lift pumps 18.75" bore by 36" stroke. These pumps were fed by gravity from the sedimentation reservoirs and forced the untreated water to the treatment plant against a 30' head. Their capacity was 10% greater than the high lift pumps that pumped from the treatment plant to service. The arched structures over the crank pits carry the lubrication system for the crank pins/big ends and allow the engine to run continuously without the need to stop to replenish oil reservoirs. I was being given the full tour by a friend on the engineering team. I am very pleased with the quality of this shot.
