This educational Dr. Seuss activity set, with a focus on book titles and characters, is awesome I laminated the materials, so they could be written on with a fine-tip dry erase marker, and then wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so they could be reused.  This set comes from a smoke free home.

I received this set at a Title I, after school workshop for teachers when I was teaching 1st grade.  It consists of the following: a 2-page "Can You Solve the Seuss Riddles?" set with sheets that measure 8.5" x 11", a 2-page "Dr. Seuss Books" fill-in-the-blank set with a word bank (1 page is an answer key) with sheets that measure 8.5" x 11", 2 more fill-in-the-blank sheets with word banks that measure 8.5" x 11", and a "Dr. Seuss Write the Room" set with a write-on/wipe-off sheet that measures 8.5" x 11" and 6 cards that measure 5" x 3.875".

The "Can You Solve the Seuss Riddles?" set features 10 fill-in-the-blank rhyming riddles.  One page is illustrated, in the upper left-hand corner, with the upper portion of the Cat In the Hat balancing the tip of an umbrella in the palm of one hand and a cup with saucer, book, bottle of milk, and a fish bowl on the fingertips of the other hand.  The other page is illustrated, in the bottom right-hand corner, with Horton holding the clover in his trunk that contains a Who.  Each item contains 1 blank, with the exception of one that has 2.  Answers consist of character traits/actions/names, titles, names of items, and quotes.

The "Dr. Seuss Books" set features 8 fill-in-the-blank items that relate to book titles.  Some items contain 2 blanks to complete a title.  The write-on/wipe-off page is illustrated with the famous red and white-striped hat and has a word bank at the bottom.  This sheet has a place for children to print their name at the top.  The answer key is basically a duplicate of the exercise sheet, except it has no place to print a name, and it has "Answer Key" written in red capital letters at the top.  Answers are also in red text.

The "Dr. Seuss Titles" page has a place for children to print both their name and date at the top.  It also has a score box, in the upper right-hand corner, where children can record how many answers they got correct.  This page is illustrated with the Cat In the Hat's arm tipping his hat, along with an image of the upper portion of him, in his red bow tie and red and white-striped hat, with folded hands.  This sheet has 12 fill-in-the-blank items that also relate to book titles, except that all items only have 1 blank.  This page also has a word bank.

The other page, that focuses on book titles, also has a place for children to print both their name and date at the top.  It is illustrated with a red and blue fish, Thing 1 and Thing 2 (each with 1 arm around the other's shoulder), and the Cat In the Hat in a seated position with legs crossed, 1 hand on the floor, and the other arm in the air.  This sheet has 14 fill-in-the-blank items that contain 1-3 blanks.  A word bank is also provided on this page.

The "Dr. Seuss Write the Room" sheet has a place for children to print their name at the top.  There are 6 characters (The Cat In the Hat, Horton, the Grinch, Thing 1, the Lorax) and a black and white portrait of Dr. Seuss.  Each picture has a blue line after it.  Children put the labeled picture cards in a deck, face down, next to the write-on-wipe-off sheet.  They then choose the top card, find the image on the sheet that matches it, and print the name on the line.  Upon doing this activity several times, children might then be challenged to complete the sheet without the use of the cards, to see if they can spell the names from memory.  The cards could then be used to check their work, after they have completed the page.

This set would make a wonderful addition to a 1st or 2nd grade classroom to be used during Literacy Centers!  It would also be great to have in a household with young children who are Dr. Seuss fans!  I am hoping to find this set a good home.
