Two (2) original 4"x 5" Contact Proof Type 1 photos (matched pair) taken by William (Bill) Jacobellis in the 1950's of Mel Parnell of the Boston Red Sox at Spring Training (headshot) and Yankee Stadium (full-length). These images were used for the 1955 Topps and the 1955 Topps Doubleheader cards of Parnell.  The William N. Jacobellis studio stamp of the era is applied to the back of the photo.

These prints are sold as collectibles only. No rights to the images are transferred or implied.

Type 1 prints are made from the original negative within two years of the date the negative was created and processed. Contact prints were often made of photographic negatives by the photographer so that they could evaluate the image as a positive print, not a negative.

This print comes from the archive of photographer William (Bill) Jacobellis, who made contact prints of his negatives. He would provide some of these prints to Topps and Bowman for use in creating the paintings for many of the baseball cards made by both manufacturers from 1951-1958.

His prints submitted to Topps often carry the notation "BenSol" for Bennie Solomon, who worked with Topps advertising executive, Woodie Gelman. The prints he submitted to Bowman often carry the notations, "Bowman Gum", "BG" and sometimes added the notation "JC".
