Photograph Notes: The Network Rail station is in front of the photographer with the preserved Mid-Hants Railway occupying a platform to the left where one can see some steam. I am stood on a new footbridge that was commissioned in 2013 and cost �1.7 million. In the distance is the 1892 wooden footbridge built for the London & South Western Railway (LSWR). This old bridge is closed, deteriorating and threatened with demolition. The MHR cannot afford to take this on and it is in any event on Network Rail property above third-rail electrification. Network Rail is being petitioned by the Friends of Alton Station and the bridge's future is uncertain.
