This sale is for the coupler and coupler disc and dvd only, the pictures of other stuff is for your education only. The coupler is for Wabco vacuum pumps from 1991.5 thru 2002.(we also have completely rebuilt pumps cheaper then the wore out used pumps you see for sale that will need rebuilding )
The pictures show the failing coupler dogs that go into the disc to couple and turn the steering pump which also works the brakes on 97 up hydroboost brakes. When it fails, common at 180 to 200k miles on the 4wd,usually longer on the 2wd,the loss of power steering in immediate and usually the steering will puke fluid from the reservoir dip stick when turning the wheels. It can be a chore for an inexperienced person to pull it off and press it back on and a press is needed to press it back on.
The pictures show a power steering pump pulley remover tool that can be used to pull the gear off once both dogs are broken off.Looking into the end of the rotor shaft where the gear goes you see a bearing pressed into the center. It keeps the oil in the shaft. The pennies are used to cover this so the puller screw doesn’t go in the hole and distort the bearing.Yes it looks like a roll pin is holding the gear on,it is NOT.The hole in the side of the gear is an oil lubrication hole to lube the gear in the housing.Using a vane from the pump you can align the hole when preparing tp press it back on.DO NOT press on the dogs, press between them with a piece of square stock or you will fold them in.If the hole alignment is off a little after pressing it on you will still have sufficient lubrication.Call anytime for help, happy to help you 7 days a week.eastern time.We also make the 4 vanes shown but don't sell them on ebay. They are often worn bad by the time the gear breaks.Notice in the pictures the leading edge is round.Worn will be more like a 45 degree angle with chips and splits.
Watch my video on YouTube under Gould Gear and Electric, called coupler gear installation and watch me do it in 7 minutes.Thanks..
The power steering pump pulley tools are available at most parts houses on the free rental programs. Also about 20 bucks at the cheaper tool stores.I prefer the black tool as shown in the video, much easier.
