The book published by The Snuff Bottle Society as a Snuff Bottle Collector Reprint No. 7, in 1977.

Originally published in 1943, with a second edition in 1945, the book was considered the first serious work devoted exclusively to

snuff bottle collecting.

As noted by Henry Hitt in his second edition preface the book was -

'...so enthusiastically received by both the museums and collectors, and generated so much new material and constructive criticism...'.

A terrific little book, with many black & white plates and numerous line drawings. Hitt delivers an in depth analysis of bottles across the entire range,

(although it must be said that some of his conclusions have since been found to be, at the very least, somewhat optimistic, and in other instances...downright wrong!!!).

The book concludes with an interesting notes section, Chinese word pronunciation and bibliography.

A little gem.......well worth reading and owning
