Elegant vintage Federal style secretary bookcase. Beautifully crafted mid-20th century piece. Made of solid mahogany and beautifully patterned veneers. The three-drawer base is topped by a flip-top type writing surface, supported by two manually extended supports. The writing surface is covered in a medium green felt, with a mahogany band on all four sides. The bookcase top is stepped back, and has glass panes topped with pointed arches with patterned mahogany veneer panels at their base. These open to adjustable wood shelves, with three drawers across the bottom. The bookcase is topped by a cornice, with a shaped pediment with brass orbs and a central brass eagle with outstretched wings. The secretary is in two pieces, and there are two heavy steel plates on the back of the base that attach with screws to the bookcase for stability.

In exceptional condition. Structurally completely solid, no issues. The color and finish is even throughout, no fading. The drawers open and close smoothly, as do the doors. The felt shows some fading, as seen in the pics. There is some light wear to the feet.

73.5" tall to the top of the cornice. 83.5" tall to the top of the brass eagle finial. The piece is 38" wide. The base is 18" deep, while the bookcase top is 9.75" deep. The cornice/pediment is appx. 10.75" deep. The work surface, when opened, is 38" wide, 15" deep and 30" high.
