PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The VRM 01 and VRM 02 are axial seals that consist of two components, a coated metal ring and an elastomer sealing element vulcanized from the mold. The metal ring protects the elastomer seal against damage, serves as a holder and support for the elastomer seal and at the same time acts as a flinger. The elastomer seal is not firmly attached to the metal ring, but rather expanded onto the metal ring and is also held in place by the axial flanged collar. In the case of the VRM 02, the metal ring on the outer jacket is extended in the axial direction. In combination with the circumferential groove in the axial counter surface, an additional labyrinth seal is formed. The VRM axial seal sits firmly on the shaft (press fit) and must be installed at a precisely defined distance from the metal counter surface in order to ensure a defined axial preload of the elastomer sealing element. When rotating, the sealing lip rubs axially against the metal counter surface with a contact force that results from the selected preload. This achieves the desired sealing function. The total axial contact pressure results from the preload in the installation space, the sealing lip geometry and the elasticity and tension properties of the elastomer. The VRM axial seal creates a centrifugal effect through the metal ring, which supports the good sealing function. Dust, dirt and splash water from the outside are largely thrown away. With increasing circumferential speed, the elastomer sealing element strives outwards due to the centrifugal force and thereby reduces the contact pressure. Above a certain circumferential speed, the sealing lip lifts off completely from the metal counter surface. The VRM axial seal then only acts as a gap seal and slinger. The VRM 02 also functions as a labyrinth seal. A circumferential groove must be provided in the mating surface so that the extended metal ring can run in this groove. Due to the labyrinth in the housing groove, the VRM 02 design offers additional protection and is used in applications with very high requirements.
