Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in June 2020 from a Libyan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Well-formed, relatively small glass-bearing chondrules (apparent diameter 260±160 µm, N = 23), zoned olivine fragments and very fine grained CAI are set in a relatively fresh, fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%, opaque in thin section) containing troilite, taenite and kamacite. Silica polymorph is present in some chondrules. Mineral phases in CAI include gehlenite, aluminous diopside, spinel, anorthite and iron oxide.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa27.5±28.9, range Fa0.8-72.7, N = 10; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.08-0.47 wt.%, mean 0.21 wt.%, sd 0.14 wt.%, N = 11), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs0.7±0.1Wo1.1±0.2, range Fs0.6-0.8Wo0.9-1.2, N = 2), pigeonite (Fs0.8Wo6.2; Fs4.5Wo5.3; N = 2), Al-Ti-diopside (Fs0.9±0.2Wo47.3±0.2, range Fs0.7-1.0Wo47.1-47.4, Al2O3 11.0-12.9 wt.%, TiO2 1.2-1.4 wt.%, N = 2).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3).

Specimens: 39.6 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
