Photograph Notes: View is to the northeast from near the Shipquay Gate in the Wall of Derry. The original building that stood on this site was built in 1889. It was destroyed by fire in 1908 and reopened in 1912. This red sandstone building is of Tudor Neo-Gothic style. In 1972 this building was destroyed by a number of bomb attacks. The Guildhall was restored and reopened in 1978. A ground floor council chamber is the seat of the Derry City Council and the hall is utilized as a civic centre for concerts plays & exhibitions. The Guildhall is distinguished by a huge four-faced clock and beautiful stained-glass windows. I first thought that this building was a church.
