This vintage "Makit & Bakit" craft item is in excellent condition, considering how long I have had it I had it hung, on a window, on my classroom door during the month of December.  It was never handled by my students.

This suncatcher/ornament has a silver metal frame, red flower petals with a cluster of yellow circle buds in the middle, green pointed leaves, and a hole at the top for hanging.  It measures 4" from the top of the hanging hole to the bottom of the flower petal.  It is 4.5" in width. The suction cup is 1" tall from the top to the bottom of the metal hook.  It is .75" in width.  This item is clean and comes from a smoke free home

This item was made from a kit called "Makit & Bakit" which was a Quincrafts Corporation productWith this kit, you could make your own "stained glass" suncatcher, which was really plastic, but had the appearance of stained glass.  The kits came with a silver metal frame, bags of different colored plastic beads/crystals, and a suction cup for hangingThese kits were very popular in the 80's.  I was addicted to them, especially the Christmas items, but I also remember making a gumball machine and a group of balloons.

To make one of these suncatchers, you needed to lay the metal frame on a cookie sheet covered with foil.  You then had to fill each section of the frame with a specified color of plastic crystals.  Next, you would place the cookie sheet in the oven, set at a certain temperature, and let it bake for 15-25 minutes.  The plastic pellets would melt, spread, and flow into the corners of the sectionsOnce the crystals had melted to a smooth, glass-like appearance, you knew the suncatcher was finished.  You would then remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.  Finally, you would peel it off the foil, attach the suction cup hook to the hole on top of the sparkling suncatcher and hang it in your window.

There were many different "Makit & Bakit" kits to make a variety of different suncatchers.  In addition to using these as suncatchers, many people also used the holiday-themed ones to hang on their Christmas tree with an ornament hook.  When hung close to a light on the tree, it was quite a nice effect.

This poinsettia "Makit & Bakit" suncatcher is rare and difficult to find!  I have not seen any others, currently selling online.

This nostalgic suncatcher/Christmas ornament would make a wonderful addition to an office, classroom, or household to be displayed during the Christmas season!  It might also be nice to gift to someone who is a "Makit & Bakit" fan!  I am hoping to find it a good home.
