Here we have an extremely rare Elijah Jones signed coral decorated creamer.  Potters named their pitchers and creamers, this one is named “Coral.”  The side of the creamer is covered with branching coral.  Adding to the nautical theme, the potter added a serpent handle.  Supported by 4 feet, the underside is recessed and impressed “Published by / E. Jones Cobridge / Sept. 1, 1835.”  The term “Published by” refers to the Sculpture Act of 1797 giving potters’ exclusive rights to their creative pottery designs.  The creamer is a light yellow mustard color.   Measuring 5” to the top of the handle, this is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs.  You can see glaze wear to the underside of the feet with a tiny glaze flake on the edge of one of the feet.  At nearly 200 years old this has been lovingly cared for by many generations of owners who have appreciated the beauty and rarity of this very fine creamer.
