Vintage Moroccan Berber Handwoven Knotted & Embroidered 6ft 4x10ft 4 Area Carpet

Rug Description

Glaoui rugs are made by a tribe in the foothills of High Atlas, mainly in Ouarzazate region. They are most recognizable by the combination of three weaving techniques used to make them, weaving, knotting and embroidering. The Glaoui method combines flat weaving, knotting, and embroidery, which results in the incredible detail and texture they are famous for.

This gorgeous and beautiful rug is handcrafted and represent a unique style of its kind.  It combines in itself all the arts of carpet weaving.  It’s not only woven, but also knotted and embroidered with natural wool.  This uniue Glaoui vintage rug is a valuable piece of art representing the skills and talents of our Berber craftswomen.  Its value has increased as the time went by, making of it a valuable heritage that should be preserved.  The art of weaving for the Berber woman who has crafted this piece of art is not just an ordinary household activity, but more importantly, it is a way through which she has expressed her feelings and emotions, and everything she couldn’t express in words at the time.

Our rugs are 100% authentic Moroccan rugs and have been hand selected for their quality and style. These rugs were woven with wool, sometimes also natural cotton, from the sheep of the Atlas mountains and combine a blend of traditional and contemporary styling ensuring they will work well with most design styles. Berber rugs are notable for their natural colors, which makes them a great candidate to tie in with most color schemes.
