Il ghetto di Litzmannstadt o ghetto di Lodz era un ghetto nazista istituito dalle autorità tedesche per gli ebrei polacchi dopo l'invasione della Polonia. Era il secondo ghetto più grande di tutta l'Europa occupata dai tedeschi dopo il ghetto di Varsavia. Il ghetto fu trasformato in un importante centro industriale, che produceva rifornimenti bellici per la Germania nazista e in particolare per la Wehrmacht. Il numero delle persone incarcerate al suo interno fu ulteriormente aumentato dagli ebrei deportati dai territori del Terzo Reich. Grazie alla sua notevole produttività, il ghetto riuscì a sopravvivere fino all'agosto del 1944. Fu l'ultimo ghetto della Polonia occupata ad essere liquidato. The Litzmannstadt Ghetto or Lodz Ghetto was a Nazi ghetto established by the German authorities for Polish Jews following the invasion of Poland.
It was the second-largest ghetto in all of German-occupied Europe after the Warsaw Ghetto.
The ghetto was transformed into a major industrial centre, manufacturing war supplies for Nazi Germany and especially for the Wehrmacht.
The number of people incarcerated in it was increased further by the Jews deported from the Third Reich territories.
Because of its remarkable productivity, the ghetto managed to survive until August 1944.
It was the last ghetto in occupied Poland to be liquidated. A total of 210000 Jews passed through it, but only 877 remained hidden when the Soviets arrived.
