Photograph Notes: Princess Pocahontas had been received at the Court of King James I but died on a ship off Gravesend on her return to Virginia and was buried in the chancel of St George's Church in Gravesend. The church was built c.1485 but was destroyed by fire in 1727. It was rebuilt in 1732 but it is uncertain now where exactly Pocahontas is buried. The statue of Princess Pocahontas, which is a replica of the one in Jamestown, was unveiled by the Governor of Virginia on 5th October 1958.
