This Gilbert Clock is an 8-Day striking alarm clock. The original label on the backside of the
clock is clearly legible and well affixed.
The
pendulum is ornate with fancy brass leaves draping over the detailed pressed brass sheet which
covers the adjustable iron bob.
The heavy brass movement is
stamped on the front plate with the following: Wm L. Gilbert Clock Co.
Winsted, Conn., U.S.A. Pat. June 5, 1879 and also with the size of the
movement , 5 1/2 on the lower right corner of the plate.
The dial is intact but does show some wear.
The larger
surrounding brass bezel has some wear marks.
The large, single glass pane is in
excellent condition and it appears to be the original piece. The gold
toned painting on the glass is also in excellent condition having no
scratches or chips in it.
The beautiful hardwood case has applied
carvings on the upper portion and incised carvings throughout.
