Ezan

A stunning 1930-1935 French art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. It holds six large opalescent cups in thick opalescent glass made by EJG the company of Jean Gauthier in its Ezan factories north from Paris.  Opalescent molded-pressed semi-crystal shades became in fashion in the mid 30s. With beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending whether light falls on or shines through the glass. The model shades of this chandelier do not exist signed. Petitot, as well as other manufacturers of high-quality art deco lighting, made chandeliers using these shades. The chandelier on offer shows the foundry marks HR on the inside of the six arms. I was not able to find out which lighting firm used these HR initials.

As you can see on one of the pictures I do have two identical chandeliers. This sale is for one only. The second one is listed in a separate ad.

The chandelier is in excellent condition. The fixture has been re-plated. It has a height of 77 cm (30-5/16") and is 70 cm wide (27-1/2"). The shades have a diameter of 21 cm. They are thick and heavy. 1,17 kilo per shade. The chandelier is rewired. It holds six American candelabra base sockets.  For European countries I will place E14 ones.

Free worldwide shipping. The chandelier will be shipped in several parcels with full insurance by priority airmail.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first world war Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in molded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
