Listing Description 

Fine 20th Century Bronze Figurine Sculpture Depicting 'The Bather', "Bathing Venus" Or "Venus After A Bath" Posed After The Original Model By Christophe- Gabriel Allegrain (French 1710-1795). 

This Model Has Been A Popular Subject Across The Arts Since Antiquity, Depicting A Full-Length Nude Figure Of Venus, Goddess Of Love Towelling Her Legs With A Furled Cloth, As She Rests One Foot On A Small Rock. Figurine Cast Set Upon Stepped Circular Plinth Base. 

Unsigned 

The Original Sculpture Was Commissioned In 1755 By King Louis XV And Stood Exhibited In His Salon Of 1767. Later In 1772 King Louis XV Gave The Sculpture To His Mistress Madam Du Barry.

A Sculptor Celebrated For his Exceptional Creations In A Blend Of Neoclassical and Rococo Styles. Working From The Mid 18th Century In France, He Secured Important Patronage To King Louis XV, Whom Commissioned His Most Famous Work  'Venus After A Bath' Or French 'La Baigneuse' After which This Sculpture Was Made.
