Second half of the 19th century. 19 3/4” length with 14 1/2” ridged medial blade. The grip of distinctive European influence, possibly European made and lathe turned. Forge iron blade with indent decorated bolster. The grip entirely encase in fine distinctively copper wire work, distinctively Zulu. Blade with dark patina. Some wear and breaks to the wire work. Very likely dating to the period of Zulu conquest in the second and third quarters of the 19th century. Probably captured with its warrior age owner who was pressed into the Zulu ranks as was the system Untouched with wonderful character.
