My scheme, though mocked by nave, coquette, and fool,
To thinking minds will prove this golden rule:
In all pursuits, but chiefly in a wife,
Not wealth, but morals, make the happy life.

Here we offer a rare 1797 collection of 4 complete English comedic popular plays, printed in London by John Bell, each play accompanied by two charming tissue-protected frontispiece engravings. The plays included are: "The Tender Husband," by Sir Richard Steele; "The Committee," by Sir R. Howard; "The Natural Son," by Richard Cumberland; and "The Jealous Wife," by George Colman.

Complete text block has been rebound in faux-leather wrap. Some light moisture staining and soiling within. Very tight and square binding; text and marvelous engravings are very bright and crisp. 423 pages in all; vest-pocket-sized at approximately 5.75 x 3.75-inches.

This very early compilation will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a very special gift.
