A New Acquisition!

1893 Colombian Exposition World's Fair Silver Pig Stanhope!

Invented by René Dagron in 1857, stanho-scopes (stanhopes) are optical devices whivh enable viewing if microphotographs without using a microscope. Dagron attached the microfhotograph to the end of a stanhope lens. Calling his device "bijoux photo-microscopiques or photo jewelry.

This wonderful souvenir of the 1893 Colombian Exposition World's Fair is approximately 1" long x ¾" tall. Believed to be 800 to 900 (coin silver), it has fine detail with "Chicago on one side and "1893" on the other. Inside is a stanhope view of one of the exposition's buildings which can be seen when looking through the rear end of the pig. Unfortunately the scene is not clear and very hard to make out.

Otherwise it is in very good condition. Please super size the listing images to view the condition in closer detail!
