Collates complete [14], 317, [9] leaves. Large woodcut colophon leaf at the close with date ‘1573. Novemb. 10’. An excellent, crisp and clean copy in the main with wide margins.
Occasional very small marks or blemishes else a delightful copy. Page numbers misnumbered in places, two leaves [237/238] misbound after [239/40].
Overall a fine copy of this rare collection of sermons on the Apocalypse by Heinrich Bullinger.
Heinrich Bullinger (18 July 1504 – 17 September 1575)
Swiss Reformer, the successor of Huldrych Zwingli as head of the Church of Zürich and former pastor at Grossmünster. As one of the most important reformers in the Swiss Reformation, Bullinger is known for co-authoring the Helvetic Confessions and his work with John Calvin on the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
Bullinger's role in the Reformation has long been underestimated; however, recent research shows that he was one of the most influential theologians of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Bound in contemporary calf boards.
Re-backed sometime in a lighter calf.
Gilt initials ‘I.B’ to the front and rear boards.
A solid and rather attractive period binding.
