THIS ITEM IS-----Just a super cool book, Philadelphia: Mackellar, Smiths & Jordan, 1896. over size aprox 11 1/2 x 15 x 5/8 inches. 96 pages, illustrations. Faux vellum with an art nouveau front covers in bold decorative gilt. love the engraved figure (like a greek in just a towel) casting type on a brown background. This is the history of the oldest foundry in the United States which would eventually merege in 1892 with 23 other foundires to form the American Type Founders Company. I think you can tell from the first picture that there is damage to the book cover, mostly in the upper right and lower left area. but the inside is fine. front cover is not totally connected as shown in the third photo.
great photos inside of all kinds of workers making type. very cool. i think you will like it. you can find this online listed for $600.00, but my price is less.
FROM the Elli Buk collection of amazing mostly science stuff, but also neat other things, google him if you want to learn more about the amazing man this item came from.
