Philodendron selloum
(Lacy tree)

The Philodendron selloum plant is a houseplant native to the tropical areas of South America, an evergreen and climbing plant that grows to a height of 5 meters. It has large lobed leaves, which grow on long stems. It can be used as hanging or climbing on guardians.
It requires a semi-shaded or full shade position: it fears, in fact, the direct rays of the sun which could damage its leaves. It adapts to any type of soil, but prefers rich and fertile, humiferous and moist, perfectly drained: to avoid absolutely stagnant water that could cause rotting of the fleshy roots. It bears some periods of drought, but takes advantage of repeated and contrasting irrigations in the spring-summer period. It does not tolerate frost, especially if intense and prolonged, which can compromise the entire leaf apparatus. Also ideal as a houseplant, it grows well in a vase or container. In the open ground it can be used mainly in the construction of coastal gardens: placed in the shade of large trees or large evergreen shrubs, with its exuberant foliage it gives an exotic-tropical aspect to any corner of the garden.
Can tolerate all sorts of neglect. Will grow well in light levels bright enough to read a newspaper in comfort even though they are often exposed to lower light levels and still survive.
