Henri Dropsy, born in Paris 3rd on January 21, 1885 and died in Veneux-les-Sablons on November 2, 1969, is a sculptor and medalist
Biography
Henri Dropsy was a pupil of his father Jean-Baptiste Émile Dropsy (1848-1923), then of Gabriel-Jules Thomas, Jean-Antoine Injalbert, Frédéric de Vernon and Henri-Auguste-Jules Patey3. In 1908, he was awarded the second Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1911, he graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His brother Lucien-Émile Dropsy received an honorable mention at the Salon des artistes français that year.
In 1914, he won a silver medal and, in 1921, a gold medalist at the Salon des artistes français. A travel grant was awarded to him in 1922, which allowed him to stay in Italy, Tunisia and Algeria. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1928, he received the following year a medal of honor at the Salon des artistes français4.
From 1930 and for many years, he held the position of professor of engraving in medals at the National School of Fine Arts, and in 1948-1949, he was a lecturer at the School of Fine Arts. from Cairo. He also became president of the artistic property syndicate.
On January 17, 1942, he was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, in the engraving section, in the chair of Louis-Alexandre Bottée5.
He died in Veneux-Les Sablons on November 2, 1969.
