Photograph Notes: Within the framework of the photo, the coastline, or where the land and sea now meet, the cliffs have retreated to their present positions. The wave-cut platform marks their line of retreat and using the figure of 60 cm of erosion per year, on average, this distance represents a period of approximately 350 years. If it had been possible to use time-lapse photography to show snapshots of the cliffs retreating, it would have shown geomorphological processes shaping the land on a watchable human time scale.
