Photograph Notes: River Bollin at the top of the weir which was built by Samuel Greg to power Quarry Bank Mill. The structure to the right of the weir has recently been constructed to house a 50kW Kaplan Turbine as part of a small-scale hydro-electric power scheme which is hoped will provide approximately 55% of the energy needed by Quarry Bank Mill. The small opening to the left of the main turbine inlet is a fish pass. This will help salmon, trout, eel and coarse fish to pass over the mills historic weir. It will allow salmon to return to the improving waters of the Bollin Catchment for the first time since the Industrial Revolution.
