Photograph Notes: The Animal Centre ([[[4786359]]]), which is open to the public all year round, was built in 2003/4 to replace the Pets Corner. It is home to a selection of farm animals, including Cows, Pigs, Goats, Alpacas, Ducks, Hens and Geese, plus Rabbits and Guinea Pigs. An alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated species of South American camelid. They are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of southern Peru, northern Bolivia, Ecuador, and northern Chile. Alpacas resemble, but are considerably smaller than, llamas. Unlike llamas, they were not bred to be beasts of burden, but were bred specifically for their fleece, which is used for making knitted and woven items, similar to wool.
