Photograph Notes: When Robert Dudley died without an heir in 1588 he left his property to his nephew, Sir Philip Sidney, the famous Elizabethan soldier-poet. The emblem of the Sidneys was this striking blue porcupine. It is to be seen sharing pride of place with [[[7007200]]] on the northern range of the hospital within the courtyard. (see [[[7007048]]]) This range also features six acrobatic bears.
