Photograph Notes: The Methodist church and Sunday school, Chapel Street, was built in 1811. The building was refronted in 1825, and altered in the later 19th century. Constructed of squared, coursed gritstone under a stone slate roof. Some original internal features remain. The front walls, steps, railings and gates are included in the listing. The town is located in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, some 7� miles north of Skipton. Lead mining brought prosperity to the town in the 18th and 19th centuries. The town now attracts many tourists, especially walkers, with some excellent routes on the surrounding fells.
