This helmet represents the improved pattern introduced about the time of the English Civil Wars. The heavy two piece skull is joined with a riveted lapped seam flanked by pairs of decorative lines. The pivoting brim is attached with a three bar face guard and the neck is protected with a one piece guard, ribbed to simulate articulated lames as well as strengthen. The ears are protected with pierced cheek pieces. The entire helmet is coated with black paint or pitch. 13" height. Provenance: Hengrave Hall, near Bury St. Edmund, Suffolk.
