NELSON EDDY - ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED TO LOVELY MAMO (CLARK) 1935

This beautiful photo was taken in 1935, credited to HURRELL M.G.M. and signed by Nelson Eddy to actress Mamo Clark October 26, 1935. It is a Large 10" x 13" autographed photo, double matted to an overall size of 16" x 20" The signed photograph was authenticated by Robert Eaton of R&R Enterprises toward the end of the 20th century and was listed in Catalog 198, Item 379. This is one of the finest photos that Nelson Eddy ever autographed in his early years as an actor. As of today, it is 86 years old.

Nelson Eddy was born June 29, 1901 and died March 6, 1967. He was was an American singer and actor who appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as in opera and on the concert stage, radio, television, and in nightclubs.  A classically trained baritone, he is best remembered for the eight films in which he co-starred with soprano Jeanette McDonald. He was one of the first "crossover" stars, a superstar appealing both to shrieking bobby soxers  and opera purists, and in his heyday, he was THE HIGHEST PAID SINGER IN THE WORLD!

During his 40-year career, EDDY earned three stars on the HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME (one each for film, recording, and radio), left his footprints in the wet concrete at Grauman's Chinese Theater. Eddy earned three GOLD RECORDS,  and was invited to sing at the third inauguration of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941. He also introduced millions of young Americans to classical music and inspired many of them to pursue a musical career. Mamo Clark the actress he autographed this to, was Clark Gables wife in the filming of "MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY" in 1935. Mamo was a very close friend of Nelson Eddy who was known to be a very close friend of Clark Gable at the time.  This autographed photo is a very early part of Hollywood history.

The photo that features an original inscribed autograph by Nelson Eddy to actress Mamo (Clark) and also features two vehicles being a 1935 Ford and a 1935 Packard V8. Mamo owned the Packard V8 as per a deduction on her 1936 tax return which is also in our Mamo Clark collection. We sold Mamo's Hawaiian canopy bed several years ago on ebay for $25,000.  Partial license plate verifies the date the photo was taken by MGM. Photo also shows in the background the very early Hollywood neighborhood. Nice authentic photo and early history of early Hollywood Stars.

Condition: I wish to point out a couple of diminutive defects: There are two very small hairline fractures to the finish on the left side as shown in the closeup of photo #3. Both measure about 3/4".  There are also fractures on the right margin as shown in closeup of photo #4. These are not very noticeable unless you get a magnifying glass and look for them. They do not detract from the overall appearance of the photo and autograph. As shown in the reverse side, there is some inscription that is scribbled out. The handwriting appears to be characteristic of Mamo Clark. She was married several years later and probably scribbled it out for content that she did not want to be seen by anyone or her new husband. This autograph is GUARANTEED TO BE ORIGINAL and we provide a lifetime guarantee on its authenticity. If you want to submit to PSA/DNA and it is found to be otherwise, we will positively reimburse your COA cost. There are not any doubts regarding authenticity on this item.
