This is a 1942 hardcover copy of the Dorothy McCardle (1889-1958) book, "The Uninvited". It is a Literary Guild Publication in New York. In England, where it was originally published, it was titled "Uneasy Freehold". And it is an ex-Library book, as you can see from the photos. It's got tape marks, yellowing, some foxing, stamps, and some water damage that can be seen on the inside covers. No pages are loose. It's not what is called a "tight copy". Dust jacket is the original and has tape marks and some small tears, as you can see. Book cover front and back have left-over tape marks as well. I've taken lots of photos so you get a really good idea of its condition. Bear in mind, these copies are very rare now. The book was made into a well known horror film, in 1944, of the same name - with Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, Gail Patrick, Donald Crisp, Cornelia Otis Skinner, and Alan Napier. Director Martin Scorsese named it as one of his favorite horror films. The film's song "Stella by Starlight" was adapted into a popular song with lyrics by Victor Young and recorded by other artists of the 1940s and 1950s. And it all started with this book!
I'm not a book dealer, so I'm showing you, in photos, the condition of the book. Buyer pays $10 to ship/handle, domestically.
