J.B. Owens started his own pottery company in 1891. He built a new plant and started manufacturing pottery in 1896. Owens manufactured pottery for only 10 years and won critical acclaim but closed in 1907.

While the Utopian line is their most recognizable, which is a high- gloss brown, here we have the rarer line of Matt Utopian. This 7 1/2 inch tall Matt Utopian bottle vase is a wonderful example of this line. The slip-painting of Daises is exceptionally well executed in pastel colors. Beautiful soft matt finish that shows off the hand-painted flowers. This is artist signed on the side as TS for Tot Steele.

Wonderful vase in that it has no chips, no crazing, no repairs, no scratches to glaze. There is a very tight internal hairline near the rim that is barely noticeable and does not affect the appearance in any way. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops.
