Early engravings of woodcuts of the Author Sebastian Munster:

       Ludwig, duke of Bavaria

Well known German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar book of which this is a leaf from entitled Cosmographies first printed in 1544 and became one of the most influential works on geography in the mid-sixteenth century. It was translated into five languages and published in forty different editions and was the earliest German description of the world.

This was produced in the style of a modern day encyclopedia and contained woodcuts: portraits of kings, princes, costumes, occupations, customs, wildlife, plants and even monsters and other related subjects
