by Yousuf Karsh This portrait is by legendary photographer Yousuf Karsh, one of the world's greatest portrait photographers. Born in Armenia in 1908, he has been living in Canada since 1924. His wartime studies of Winston Churchill and other national leaders were extremely well received and he has continued to portray statesmen, artists and writers throughout the world. "The revelation, if it comes at all, will come in a small fraction of a second with an unconscious gesture, a gleam of the eye, a brief lifting of the mask that all humans wear to disguise their innermost selves from the world. In that fleeting interval of opportunity the photographer must act or lose his prize." - Yousuf Karsh. Here Karsh photographs Prince Charlesg This gravure print is from a rare out of print book of some Karsh's best portraits, it was produced using the sheet-fed gravure process by Netherlands Jon Enschede en Zonen, one of the very best printers of high quality art books. The book binding was specially designed to allow easy removal of individual prints for framing. The Portfolio was a landmark in portrait photography. It represented access to a quality of print otherwise greatly restricted by cost. Indeed, the resolution and tone are second to none, with each pore of the face holding depth, and a sense of intimacy that is at once revealing and unsettling. An unsurpassed velvety yet grainy feel. Excellent good condition - 9.5 X 12 inches, printed on matte finish. The scan does not cover the entire plate. Blank on the reverse side, and accompanied by the engaging and revealing text that accompanies the print. Prints are shipped in protective photographic mailers.
