A beautiful box of stunning Vintage Japanese Urushi and Sunago threads.  Twelve wooden bobbins each with 15 metres of thread plus an extra free bobbin, making 195 metres in total.  The bobbins measure 27 mm x 16 mm and are an excellent way of keeping threads.  The threads have a diameter of 0.2mm.

Japanese Urushi thread is a lacquered thread which gets its name from the Urushi tree, the sap of this tree is used to make the lacquer which gives the thread resilience and a beautiful texture.
It is like the gold and silver threads in that a coloured lacquer is applied to a very narrow strip of very fine but strong paper and wound in a continuous spiral around a thread (usually silk) core. It is a time consuming and skilled process producing these special threads.

Japanese Sunago thread is also a lacquered thread, made in a similar way to Urushi thread, but with Gold Dust incorporated, this gives a wonderful sparkling effect to the traditional subtle Japanese colours.....fabulous!  The word Sunago means Gold Dust in Japanese.

The Collection is in presented in a strong black gift box which measures
22cm x 7cm x 2cm.
