For your consideration, today we are offering ONE VERY RARE NIPPON FS-883 PERSONAL PORTABLE STEREO CASSETTE PLAYER OR "WALKMAN".  This is a quality Japanese made personal cassette stereo, from the early 1980's. It is clearly designed to be a copy of the legendary Sony TPS-L2 Walkman. It is even of the same blue color, has a very similar push button configuration, and even has the push button activated microphone, which Sony called the "Hot Line" feature, which allows you to hear your surroundings, through the headphones, by depressing the button. The unit has 2 headphone outputs, much like the Sony, and 2 seperate sliders, for each channel volume. The unusual feature, of this machine, is that it has metal tape playback equalization, as well as standard. Unlike the Sony, the housing of this unit, is a combination of plastic and aluminium, whereas the sony is mostly aluminium. This is not a cheap knockoff, but a high quality unit, as is evidenced by the metal tape equalization. The unit is in generally decent shape, with some wear, by the cassette entrance, and general signs of use. The unit uses 4 batteries, and the battery compartment is clean, with no signs of past battery leakage. I have never seen another of these units in the US, and I suspect it may have been made for overseas markets, or perhaps to be sold only in Japan.  A very rare find, which would compliment a Sony collection, or simply add to a costume, on a budget. Unit has been given a basic test, and does need service. It will likely need new belts, and perhaps a few adjustments or capacitors, however it DOES have life, and does move tape, and produce sound in both channels, however the speed and movement is erratic, as the belts are nearly 40 years old! As always, please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We gladly ship worldwide, and pack professionally. Buyer to pay shipping.
