1941 South African soldier's mail letter on a prepaid South African "Active Service Letter Card," whose bilingual instructions are printed both in English and Afrikaans.  The letter card is preprinted with 3d in South African postage, and the soldier need pay nothing more, as long as is it folded to the intended size and contained no further contents.  On the inside, the letter is dated December 13, 1941.  It appears to bear a cancellation reading "Egypt Prepaid," but it is difficult to see, and no cancellation date is legible.  It is an interesting letter, in which the soldier expects to be home soon, naively predicting that World War II (WWII) will be a short war.  He also mentions guarding German prisoners, and he talks of some Australians whose ship was torpedoed and how he get got to know a few sailors who were saved.  It is a scarce and collectible piece of history.  It is in nice, clean condition, with only the several folds intended for mailing.  This is a great piece ready to enhance any collection of South African or WWII postal history.
