Grow your own asparagus and get thick, tasty green spears every year without re-planting. It is a perennial vegetable, the better established the plant becomes, the more asparagus it will produce. Stop cutting in mid-summer to allow it to grow and store energy for next year. To plant, simply dig a hole or furrow about 20 cm deep, place the root crown in it with the bud pointing up and back-fill with soil then firm down and water well. You get two root crowns that are about three years old with this order.
